A kutatás célja a magyar katonai repülés kialakulásánák, kezdeti éveinek minél részletesebb bemutatása.
A dolgozat első része német és magyar nyelvű irodalom felhasználásával röviden áttekinti az OMM katonai repülésének a létrejöttét, majd részletesen ismerteti a motoros repülés kialakulásának legfontosabb állomásait. Ezt követően Újvidék fejlődésével, a feszült balkáni helyzet miatt egyre fontosabbá váló stratégia szerepével foglalkozik. A bécsi Kriegsarchivban és a budapesti Hadtörténelmi Levéltárban fellelhető dokumentumok nyomán bemutatja az Újvidéki reptér létrejöttének körülményeit, egyes konkrét lépéseit. Korabeli újságcikkek alapján részletesen ismerteti az 1913 május 10-12-én lezajlott nagyszabású ünnepségeket, a reptér felavatását. Az esemény különös jelentőségét az adja, hogy ezt a hétvégét tekinthetjük a magyar katonai repülés születésnapjának is. Az első parancsnok, Kenese Waldemár főhadnagy életrajzának rövid ismertetése után a befejező rész az I. világháború kitöréséig tartó, egyre intenzívebbé váló pilótaképzéssel foglalkozik.

THE AIRFIELD OF NOVI SAD (part 1)

The aim of the research has been to give a detailed survey of the beginnings and development of Hungarian aviation.
The first part of the essay, drawing on German and Hungarian references, offers a brief summary of the establishment of the Austro-Hungarian military aviation, then it details the most significant segment of it: the beginnings of motor-driven aviation. Further on, the work tells about the development of Novi Sad and its strategic role, which became more and more important as the situation got more tense on the Balkans. Based on documents found in the Kriegsarchiv in Wien and in the Military Archives in Budapest, the essay outlines the circumstances of establishing the Novi Sad airfield and a few particular stages of it. Drawing on data from newspapers of the period in question, it gives a detailed description of the opening of the airfield and of the great celebrations on the 10-12th May, 1913. That weekend has had a peculiar importance as the event has been considered to be the birthday of Hungarian military aviation. After a brief introduction, i.e. the biography of the first commander, Kenese Waldemár, flying officer, the final part of the essay deals with pilot training, which intensified till the outbreak of World War I.
